17. What is the discretionary account?

The discretionary account means an account for which the bank is given by the account owner the authority to manage or control.  It means the bank can manage the account in its sole discretion through buying and selling securities and/or doing any other transactions without any prior consent of the account owner.  Usually the banks offer various types of discretionary accounts in accordance with the risk acceptability of the customers.
